George Timson

My name is George Timson and I am from Springfield, MO. I earned my BS in Geography from Missouri State University, then Masters in Counseling and Student Personnel Services from the University of Southern Mississippi, working in various roles like an RA and Hall Director, an Orientation Leader and Conference Assistant, a Peer Advisor and First Year Studies Teacher, all to help pay my way through College and because I enjoyed it!

After University, I worked as a Residence Hall Director and Academic Advisor, working with undeclared students at the University of Tennessee. I got the opportunity to teach English abroad in Bangkok, Thailand and many cities in China, where I helped create and grow our companies VVIP Program. In between roles, I had the opportunity to travel all over Asia and South and Central America!

A few years ago, I decided it was time to return to Middle America. I wanted to be closer to family as my nieces and nephews were getting closer to starting college, and I knew it was Academic Advising I wanted to continue. I became an Academic Advisor at KU in January of 2022, and have been working with a variety of STEM programs here. I started teaching our first year students in UNIV 101 in 2023, and continue to work closely with our first year STEM students as they adjust to college life here at KU

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, hiking and traveling to new and unique places. I’m also a big fan of continuous learning and you can find me regularly reading up on some of the newest scientific and history books out there. I also like to get together and cook something interesting for my sister and two nieces when I get the chance!
